How To: Stake Ontology with OWallet

  • 1. Secure your coins with a hardware wallet

Always use a Ledger Nano S/X to secure your Ontology and other cryptocurrencies. Record your 24-word seed and never give it to anyone. Remember: Not your keys, not your coins.

Be sure you have the Ledger Live Ontology application installed on the device.

  • 2. Accumulate 500 Ontology

Each stake requires 500 Ontology (ONT). You might need to buy Bitcoin (BTC) or Ethereum (ETH) first, then send those coins to an exchange like Kucoin, Bibox, or Binance to buy Ontology (ONT).

  • 3. Download & Install O3

Download and install the latest Windows version of O3. Verify that you're downloading from the official O3 website by confirming the url: https://o3.network

  • 4. Launch O3 & select your wallet

Launch O3, navigate to the Apps screen and select the Stakeology dApp.

Select the account to manage your stake and click "Accept" to initiate the connection between your O3 wallet and the Staketology dApp.

  • 5. Your Stake Dashboard

After connecting, you will see a list of your current stakes. If you don't have any stakes yet, click on "Create New Stake" or "View all consensus nodes".

  • 6. Select a Node and Manage your Stakes

Select a node by clicking on it's row.

You can review and manage any existing stakes or add new stakes. Add a new stake by clicking "Stake ONT". The "Stake ONT" button will be disabled if you don't have the required minimum of 500 ONT available for a stake.

  • 7. Slide your Stake, Sign your Stake, Love your Stake

Move the slider to select the amount of ONT you would like to stake and click "Stake Ontology".

O3 will ask you to sign the transaction. Review the transaction details and click "Approve" to proceed.

Your new stake will be listed as a "Pending deposit" and will automatically move to "Active" at the beginning of the next staking round.

  • Congratulations! You are now an Ontology stakeholder.

You can use the same wallet again to fund a different consensus node. Simply accumulate and move another 500 ONT to your address and select a different (or same) node.

Remember, cancelling a stake takes time. A cancelled stake's coins will not be redeemable until after the next round.

Staked coins still generate the same amount of Ontology GAS (ONG) as unstaked coins, but staked coins also earn Round Bonuses and Monthly Bonuses.

Connect your Ledger Nano S/X and open the Ontology application

Launch OWallet and click the Enter button. Select the Ledger Wallet top-navigation tab.

Select an existing wallet, or create a new one (Step 4a.)

    • 4a. Create a new Ledger Wallet and send yourself some Ontology

If this is your first time connecting a Ledger Nano S/X to OWallet, you'll need to add a new wallet by clicking the "+" tile. Name the wallet and click the Connect button. Take note of your public wallet address and move your 500 ONT coins here.

Your stake will be a smart contract associated with this address. You will still earn Ontology GAS (ONG) while your coins are in the contract.

  • 5. Choose a Node

In the left navigation of OWallet, click the Node Stake icon. Then select the blue Stake Authorization button to access the list of Ontology consensus nodes. You will have the option of joining any of the top seven nodes.

Select the node you want by clicking the right arrow.

Staking the lowest ranked node (Rank 7) will result in a higher monthly reward payout. Always stake the lowest ranked node.

  • 6. Make sure your Ledger is Ready

Click the Ledger Wallet option and when the Device Status reads “Ledger is Ready”, click the Next button. Sign in to your Ledger Nano S/X as needed.
  • 7. Stake your Coins

Click the Submit new stake authorization button and enter the desired Units of stake authorization. Each unit represents 500 Ontology (ONT).

Click Submit to stake your Ontology.
